Web hosting and the youtube conundrum

After being with my last web host for a number of years, I recently started the search for another host.

My previous host had been OK, I had no real complaints, but nothing to sing from the rooftops about either. They were simply no longer able to provide me with what I needed.

As a webmaster of several sites, providing professional web deployment for a variety of clients on a very personal service basis. I was looking for a high value low cost hosting solution, that was flexible, and that would allow me to control every technical aspect of my needs. This includes, hosting multiple sites with totally separate domain names I.E,, , etc. The instant creation of multiple email addresses, email and web forwarding etc , etc. In short I was looking for a host that would allow me the flexibility to be my own mini ISP so that I could deal with my clients needs quickly and efficiently. Without having to spend ages in a phone cue, only to talk to someone who invariably couldn’t speak fluent ‘geek’…. “I’m sorry sir I’m afraid I don’t have the answer to that question, Ill have to put you on hold and transfer you to a ‘Level 2’ customer service representative”

I was starting to work on a non-profit project that has big ideas but not bottomless pockets. Part of this brief has a large video media based element so I was also looking for unrestricted access to an ffmpeg encoder to facilitate large scale user based video deployment and server side conversion of a wide variety of video codecs to flash å lå YouTube©. The search was painful and the quotes and associated costs sometimes laughably astronomic, but after some serious surfing and comparison shopping I finally found my match at Cirtex.

A high value low overhead host, Cirtex provide an exceptional service, offering a variety of packages to suit every budget. Offering, a clean and easily navigable CPANEL control, one click installation of a wide variety of CMS, Blogging and forum packages via an easy to use Fantastico interface. They are also one of the very few hosting companies that provide, PhPMotion hosting (an open source YouTube© Clone) for large scale user based video uploading, conversion and deployment, at an almost unbelievable rate.

And if I ever did feel so inclined to get into the reseller business they also provide that too.

My experience to date has been excellent,  and I can throughly recommend them.

Flock 1.0 The Social Web Browser is released! Its a pretty cool experience and I am finding ways to use it creatively all the time. It is based on the Firefox Mozilla engine and suffers from the lack of real speed that you experience with Opera, however its functionality, ease of use and graphical appeal do go some way to make up for this. Its really has the potential to be THE browser of the future. Download a copy near you now and take it for a spin!
